Director of Nursing - Nursing Services
Responsible for the overall services and systems of the nursing department, assuring that facility department and professional standards of patient care are maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Initiates, reviews and updates department organizational structures, goals, policies, procedures and programs. Examples of such areas of policies and programs are Nursing Standards, Nursing Care Delivery Systems, Quality Improvement/Risk Management, Infection Control, Recruitment/Retention Plans, Position Descriptions and Department Educational/ Growth Programs.

Develops and monitors the department’s budget and participates in the facility’s Strategic Planning activities.

Conducts nursing rounds and reviews the care of the patients to ensure quality nursing care and adherence to patient bill of rights, and to ascertain needs for additional or modified services.

Promotes cost effectiveness within the department by regularly examining equipment and supplies for effectiveness and economy of use, maintaining staffing practices within established budget, and by making appropriate decisions and recommendations regarding the purchase of new equipment and implementation of new procedures.

Ensures responsibilities are completed in a quality and cost effective manner and proper input is given to the CEO/President regarding the department’s budget and operations.

Attends monthly Medical Staff and Board of Director meetings as an ex officio non-voting member in order to maintain open lines of communication and relay information concerning nursing issues. Serves as a member of the following committees/meetings: Department Heads, Medical Staff, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, Safety, Risk Management, and Quality Pillar.

Interprets facility and department policies and procedures to department staff, researches and resolves staff and work-related issues and initiates plans to motivate staff to achieve goals.

Assures that all nursing staff is appropriately educated to perform their jobs, properly oriented to the work environment, and have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform their responsibilities.

Assures there is effective staff scheduling to promote adequate nursing coverage and quality patient care.

Reviews and assists with annual performance evaluations on all nursing services staff. Supervises and assists the Social Services Department.

Functions as clinical resource person and role model in medical/surgical, obstetrics, emergency, and other special care areas. Maintain physical assessment skills and demonstrate knowledge in all nursing areas to assist the nurses or perform patient care duties personally when staffing is compromised by excessive workload.

Professional Requirements

Baccalaureate Degree required from an approved school of nursing and holds a current Kansas license (or capable of obtaining) as a Registered Nurse.

Masters Degree preferred.

Nursing experience with a minimum of two years of management responsibilities and five years of clinical nursing experience.

Skills:

Able to communicate effectively in writing or verbally.

Ability to resolve conflict effectively.

Promotes a positive professional attitude.

Must possess computer skills.

Works cooperatively with all staff.

Additional Information
Shift : Day
Salary: $49,000.00 to $73,000.00 per year
