HealthWise 55 ProgramHealth awareness and preventive health care are key factors to living a healthy life. Are you 55 years of age or older and interested in staying healthy? Do you want to learn more about health care issues such as heart disease, diabetes, and stroke? Then join HealthWise 55 at Community Memorial Healthcare. CMH started HealthWise 55 in September of 2000 as a new wellness program designed to assist those individuals fifty-five and older in areas of health education and disease prevention. HealthWise 55 was developed by Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka and implemented in rural communities through Health Innovations Network of Kansas (HINK).
Michele Voelker, ARNP and Deb Baker, DPT, give a program to HealthWise 55 members about the newly formed CMH Wound Care Team.HealthWise 55 members receive a HealthWise 55 newsletter, a quarterly publication with articles pertaining to health education and awareness, a calendar of events, and healthy recipes. Members can participate in HealthWise 55 Lunch Bunch, a monthly luncheon and speaker series which endorses physical, mental and social wellness, and advocates healthy diets and healthy lifestyles. Lunch Bunch meets the first Wednesday of each month and offers a healthy lunch for $4.00 and an informative program about modern health care issues. HealthWise 55 members can also participate in support groups, like Parkinsons, which meets on a monthly basis, and TOPS Weight Loss Program, which meets weekly.
