Child BirthHaving a Baby? Community Memorial Healthcare offers child birth preparation and baby care classes to help parents adjust to their new arrivals as well as to help meet the needs of their older children. CMH wants to help prepare mothers, fathers, siblings and caregivers for the exciting adventure a new baby brings. Educational classes through the hospital include: childbirth, breast and bottle feeding, and sibling instruction. Programs are taught by registered and licensed nursing staff who have training and expertise in childbirth and parent education. Join us in learning to improve parenting skills, meet other parents, and share insights. Childbirth Classes - CMH has implemented a new tool for childbirth classes called "See What You Read." The book is given to first time moms, or mothers who have not had a baby for at least 5 years. The book is distributed to moms around their 6th month of pregnancy from the office nurse. It allows her to access a website by entering the PIN# on the back of her book for reading chapters on childbirth, or viewing the accompanying video clips, and downloading PDFs. The site is available to moms for 6 months from the date of registration. Visit www.SeeWhatYouRead.com
Of course, this book is not meant to be the only source available for preparing for the birth of a child. Moms are encouraged to register for a tour of the labor, delivery, nursery and post-partum areas or to have questions or comments addressed. Thirty minute tours are conducted the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM. Please contact Sandy Wenzl, RN, at (785)562-2311, ext. 239. Breast Feed/Bottle Feed - One of the most important choices you will make as a new mother is whether to breast-feed or bottle-feed your baby. The choice to breast-feed, as well as breast-feeding success, requires knowledge and support. A clear understanding of how the process works and guidance to manage problems that may occur are helpful. This class will help prepare you for a successful breast-feeding experience. For more information, contact class instructor Lisa Ouellette, LPN, at (785)562-3942. Class dates and times are flexible according to what works best for participants. Sibling Class - This class is designed to help ease the transition of being an older sibling with new responsibilities. We spend approximately forty-five minutes to one hour simulating newborn care with your child, answering questions, watching tapes and role playing. This class is set up according to interests and class preference. For more information, contact Sandy Wenzl, RN, at (785)562-2311, ext. 239 or Click here to send her an email. |
